So I opened up a high end panasonic servo motor, and the encoder seems to be a small CCD camera looking at a glass disc. I can’t see anything on the disc but I suspect some high density dot pattern or something. I think the specs on these is 100 000 or millions of pulses per revolution, so it’s not your typical radial line type encoder. My question… is anyone in open source community pursuing this type of encoder?
