I found some used Odrive v3.6s that were fairly cheap, but I would like to know why they are labeled as NRND. In addition, what would be the differences between the Odrive s1, and the drive v3.6, as I plan to use both simultaneously?
Hi! I’d definitely not recommend getting used v3.6 unless you can guarantee they’re genuine ODrive products (e.g. the seller has the order number on hand, which you’re welcome to run by us to see if it’s in our system) – there’s a lot of really low quality clones out there that are actually based on the v3.4/v3.5, which had major signal integrity issues.
NRND == not recommended for new designs; the v3.6 is nearing the end of its lifecycle, and we can’t guarantee the 5yr+ availability, stocking, and support that we do our newer products (Pro/S1/Micro/etc).
Overall, the S1 has newer software (the v3.6 software isn’t being actively developed anymore), is orders of magnitude more reliable, has generally a higher control fidelity, and has support for more encoders.
