Hello Fellow ODrivers,
I plan on using an AMT242D-V absolute encoder for an upcoming project. It uses RS-485 as the interface and I believe it uses the same protocol as the AMT21 series as per this article.
In theory I should be good to go I imagine but I wanted to know if anyone has ever used an AMT24 series encoder on their ODrive project. If so, was it as straight forward as using an AMT21 or were there changes to you needed to make to get it working properly?
Best,
Emi
Yep, this should work ā use it in AMT21_POLLING mode. However, Iād note that the RS485 AMT encoders have a software bug that causes really poor performance (leading to current spikes) above a few thousand RPM ā the AMT21 we sell in the shop runs custom firmware for this reason, so it may be worth considering something else if you need good performance at higher speeds.
I tested this out in the configurator and things are working well. I have a big gear ratio between the commutator and load shafts so high RPMs are no biggie for me here.
Thank you!
