Gimbal engine configuration

hmm, that motor looks a bit dirty/corroded? It also doesn’t look like a gimbal-type motor. It should probably be using the normal type 1 configuration.
That kind of encoder is also not ideal (it’s too big for the motor, and pretty low resolution). You might find that a magnetic absolute encoder like AS5047p is better and cheaper.

The motor definitely seems to have 14 magnets, so 7 pole-pairs is correct. Maybe a bad coupling between motor and encoder?
