Index and Calibration and absolute encoders clarification

So I have the AS5047P. I can’t get it to find the index signal so I’m working without it.

I’m a bit confused. For absolute encoders like the AS5047P do you need to do encoder offset calibration on startup and why use an index?
I’m asking as I’m not using an index and not doing calibration at startup and I can’t see any issue.

You only need to do encoder offset calibration once, the encoder type doesn’t matter.
And Z-Index Search isn’t neccessary for absolute encoders.

Are you using the SPI or the ABZ interface?
