Could anyone help me identify the D8 diode on an ODrive S1? I believe it may be a Schottky rectifier, possibly the St STPS2L40, but I’d like to confirm before ordering a replacement.
I’m repairing my ODrive S1 after a reverse-polarity short circuit.
Visually, only the D8 diode appears to be damaged. I checked the MOSFETs, and none of them are shorted. After removing the burned diode, the ODrive powers on normally.
I haven’t tested it with a motor yet because I’d prefer to replace the diode first. Has anyone identified this component or experienced a similar failure? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi! That’s the ST SMA6J48A. It’s just a TVS diode – did a good job of protecting from the RPP I guess! I’d definitely recommend replacing it, but you can run a bit without it if needed – just less robustness to load dumps / ESD / etc. Glad to hear everything’s working out after the RPP event!
Thank you for your response. I just tested the ODrive, and it passed the calibration sequence. It’s working fine without the TVS.
I’ll try to find an equivalent replacement for the SMA6, as it’s not available where I am, and replace it.
