Supported RLS encoder type

Hello,

According to this page here, if I want to use an RLS Orbis encoder, it must be 14-bit singleturn. When purchasing a RLS encoder however, the options I have are

  • 14B - 14 bit per revolution
  • 14M - 14 bit single turn + 16 bit multiturn

I’m wondering which is supported, since the 14B says nothing about single turn and the 14M sites an additional 16 bit multiturn

The reason I’m asking is that we recently bought a 14B, and after hooking it up to the Odrive Micro and configuring, no rotation data is being recieved.

Thanks!

Hi! This would be the 14B encoder (no multiturn means it’s a singleturn encoder).

Regarding the Micro – could you show your wiring?

Awesome! That is great news.
As for the wiring, here is the schematic we came up with:

A little more info on the symptoms:

  • The light on the encoder is solid green
  • The micro reports a status of NOMINAL for the encoder, with no errors

As of testing this morning, I’m actually getting a slightly different result then yesterday. The position data may be actually reading out, but it is blown out by a whole lot of noise:

Thanks for your help!

I’m sorry, I feel like a dummy. Just reviewing that image I obviously connected

SCK → NCS
NCS → Cable shield

After correcting the wiring to the following it works perfectly

Glad to hear you figured it out!! Best of luck
