6 DOF racesimulator

Hi Stijn, looks like your close :crossed_fingers: cant wait for the assemble and action, and you don’t need luck; but I wish it for you anyways

Regards Jerry.

Hi guys

My platform is finished and working!

I hope you enjoyed my project. I will make a better video soon.

Looks very nice! Congrats. Looking forward to a video of it hooked up to a game/sim :D.

Hi

I’m planning on doing that tomorrow.

Cheers

hi Stijn!
looks really great :+1:. I am keen on seeing it with load and running with the FlyPT Plugin! - Positive results will be the kick-off for my project (going from prototype to to real 6DOF-sim)

And … It works!!!

Wow! Great work! Congrats!

You finally made it. Great.

Hi Stijn, great work, looks impressive and it seems you finished the project on time

Jerry

Omg, really cool! Good work.

Hi Stijn!
Now as you have finished your sim some weeks ago, I am asking myself wether you might share some of your experiences with the community?
…regarding Odrive,
…regarding working with the FlyPT software,
…regarding your actuators and your sim, …
…What power supply do you use? You said that current ist so important.
…What vel_limit do you use? With my current power supply I can use max. 400000 (cpr is 8192) - so aprox 250mm/s.
…How good is the immersion together with VR?

So lot of questions… hope you have some time to tell us something!
kind regards
Peter

Hi, I will try to answer them as good as possible:

After a lot off try’s I got the end switches working. Because I’m using FlyPT without SimTools, I needed to put the actuators in the middle position before sending position commands (because there is no offset option in FlyPT) so I did that with the offset in the endswitch software.

The FlyPT software was not so hard to set up, you can look on my xsimulator project page and on the xsimulator FlyPT page how I did it. Just make sure you don’t put a space inbetween the commands because it doesn’t work that way!

My actuators work great and the frame is very steady.

First I used a power supply from school and it drew a maximum of 35A with a person (not me) the had a weight of 110kg. My power supply now is 24V 50A because I don’t think that I will go over that limit.

My actuators are not so fast at this moment because I’ve not had the time yet to make them faster, but they can be very fast but I don’t know what I will put them on.

The VR is great! Recommended!

If you need help with FlyPT, send me some screenshots off what you have. I you have any more questions, shoot .

Cheers

Hi Stijn!
thanks a lot for the information!
I still have to solve one thing with my actuator/simulator - and maybe you could help? This is the calibration sequence at each start. At my tests with my actuator-prototype I found that a load on the actuator during the calibration sequence exceeding 10 kg will not work reliably. So the whole platform should not exceed complete 60kg. I dont think this is possible. How did you solve this problem?

Hi

I don’t know how much my platform weighs but for me this was not a problem, maybe just set the maximum current a bit higher?

Hi guys

Here is a video on my YouTube channel, you can subscribe if you want. I will make more projects and also share how I made my racesim, because I didn’t have the time to do it during the project.

Hello all

I’ve finally gotten around to making a video on the mechanical build process, video on the electrical build process coming soon!

Please consider subscribing. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Hope you like the video, if you have a suggestion on another video like a detailed overview of the project, let me know! :sunglasses:

Hello, long time no see.

I’ve made a quick video about the electronics case, you can check it out here:

Hello

I made a video on how to set up ODrive completely for a racing simulator using FlyPT Mover, you can check it out here. If there are any questions, you can ask them here or in the comments.
