Increased current fried the board

I was setting up my board and was following the docs and got around to increasing the current to 20A, but then when I turned the motor on it fired something on my board. It still powers on and connects but the motors/encoders are erroring out on both axes.

What could have caused this? I did not do anything else to the board and was just trying to get used to the setting. Also is they any way I can get it repaired return it for a discount on a new one? That one might be hard to answer without more information so this weekend Ill dig in further to get the errors and find what git fried. Any pointers where to start lookin would be appreciated.
