Hi,
I have an Arduino AT Mega powered from the 5V of the Odrive 3.6 56 V connected to 2 hoverboard motors. Everything was working fine but during final setup I probably had a short-circuit on the Arduino leading to shut down of the Odrive. I checked Odrive alone connect to the computer and it was working fine but after several attempts to reconnect Arduino, Odrive is not working anymore (it is not even recognized through direct USB connection to the computer). I noticed that the 5V output (5.2 V mesured) of the Odrive is falling to 3.2 V when I connect Hall captors. I assume the 5V regulator is probably damaged although not completely dead.
Am I right?
I’d like to change the regulator but I could not locate it. I only see two regulators:
first is called U4 (listed U3 on Odrive 3.5 documentation) is a 4 pins AMS117 3.3V regulator
second is called U3 (listed U8 on Odrive 3.5 documentation) is a 5 pins LLVB regulator but form the documentation it also seems to be a 3.3V regulator.
Can you tell me where is the 5V regulator that supplies the board?
Thanks for your help.
The 5V regulator is sourced from a buck regulator on U4, which is a TI DRV8301. It’s possible something else on the board was damaged though – what specifically happened on your Arduino?
Thanks for your answer. In the final assembly the Arduino is in a plastic box but on the back of the card there are four screws that are attached to a metal frame outside the box. When I fixed the Arduino the back of the card went in contact with the metal screws which caused the short-circuit. I check the Arduino, it is fine. But the short circuit caused shut down of the Odrive. After several attempts the Odrive is no more recongnized by my computer as USB device. I think you are right there is probably more damage than 5V supply and in any case it’s too difficult for me to change DRV8301. I will order a new Odrive…
I think you’ll have to do that unfortunately, I’m guessing that this caused a large ground loop, and likely knocked out the microcontroller on the ODrive.
Could you switch to the Pro or S1 by any chance? Those are much more robust/reliable products, with higher performance and support for newer firmware, including the web GUI.
