I’m looking for BLDC motors that allow me to get the maximum torque/output from the Odrive Micro.
My target range:
- around 3–4 A at 16–24 V
- these values always refer to continuous current / continuous operation (without overheating)
I’ve already tested several motors, but none of them seem to fit this operating range well.
Current issue:
- High-KV motors often require significantly more current (20 A+), which causes the controller to overheat.
- Low-KV motors draw very little current (~1 A), and then the motor itself becomes the limiting factor or starts overheating.
Examples:
4010 74KV Outrunner Gimbal Motor (60T)
→ max. around 1 A continuous
→ Odrive Micro is underutilized
→ motor overheats at higher current
C2830 750KV Outrunner Motor
→ max. around 18 A continuous
→ motor is underutilized
→ controller overheats at higher current
Specific questions:
- How can I calculate what KV range I should be looking for?
- Are there any lists or community recommendations for motors that work especially well with the Odrive Micro?
- Which motors would you recommend to get the maximum performance out of the Odrive Micro?
