Hi, I’m working on an industrial machine where we are using for this iteration ODrives Pro to drive BLDC motors, where the communication between ODrives and microcontroller is through CAN bus. During testing, I wired the ODrives’ CAN bus line with 3 twisted cables (CANH, CANL, GND), where at the end one CAN_GND is connected to the OUT (-) of the regen clamp. This setup worked without problem, nevertheless for this iteration we want to do the “proper wiring” for the machine and thus use a shielded 4 poles twisted cable. The main difference now is that I will connect the cable also to the 12V IN, and also I need to connect the shield of the cable somewhere. Since I’m already connecting the CAN_GND to the (-) at the star point, if I also connect the shield of every cable to the board ground (-) I would be having ground loops, right? What I think I will do is to connect the shielding to the ODrives copper paths bellow the mounting screws (since they’re not connected to the board ground) and then connect one end of the shield-chain to the star point, though idk if there would be impedance problems with this setup. Should I also connect the other end of the shield-chain to the CAN_GND as this board has a spare connector being at the end of the daisy chain (?). Thanks in advance.
